What if the 3 Wise Men were just 3 ordinary guys, avoiding conflicts at home, who happened upon th egreatest story ever told?
Bill, Dave, and Jimmy have had it with their women! Even though it’s Christmas Eve, and tradition dictates they should be home, drinking hot cocoa and singing carols, the boys decide to high-tail it into the mountains for a little hunting and a lot of beer.
This protest does nothing to improve the mood of the women back in town. Lou runs Lou’s Diner. She and Bill and have been trying (unsuccessfully) to have a baby. Barbie Jo, Lou’s head waitress, is married to Dave, and they have kids, but Dave’s not interested in family this year. Darlene, the most beautiful girl in three counties is dating Jimmy, but while she’s ready to settle down, Jimmy can’t stand the idea of “commitment”. It’s gonna take a Christmas miracle to get these redneck families back together!
Bob/Narrator: a semi-truck driver whose truck broke down on Christmas Eve. Older gentleman, 55+. Calm and wise, we see the story unfold through Bob’s eyes. (Can be cast as a female, Bobbi).
Lou (Louise) Wexler – Female, 40, bubbling bundle of energy. Owns the diner. Tough, no-nonsense wisdom. Flawless makeup and hair. Well-respected.
Bill Wexler – retired marine. Married to Lou. 40. Air of authority. Owns a trail guiding business. Athletic. Philosophy concerning women is to just do whatever Lou says.
Dave Fox – typical, married father of 2 in his 30s. Owns a butcher shop. Average, but has a cultivated a great sense of humor to overcome his averageness. Has been friends with Bill most of his life.
Barbie Jo Fox – Beleaguered wife of Dave. Daugher of Verna Belle. Attractive but frazzled. Her mother never lets her forget she could have done better if she hadn’t married Dave right out of high school. Works full-time at the diner as Lou’s “right-hand girl”.
Jimmy Weaver – Considers himself the “lady’s man” in town. Mid-20s. Cute and charming, but not terribly smart. His family owns a hog farm near town, and he’s a down-home farm boy. Loves to hunt and fish and do as he pleases. Engaged to the town hottie, Darlene.
Darlene Fulmer – All-American beauty. In her 20s. A rodeo queen with horses and cowboys on her mind. No hairstyle is too big, no jewelry too outrageous. Innocent and takes everything at face value. Not known for her brains, but has a big heart. Met Jimmy through an online dating service.
Mary Sue Archer – pregnant teen who shows up in the middle of chaos and brings the true gift of Christmas. Tired and unkempt and in need of friends.
Mark Riley – In college and the son of the town’s only doctor. Has a huge crush on Darlene but has never told her. Nerdy and shy.
