What to Expect at Auditions

Welcome!

Auditioning for a show is an act of courage! We’re so excited that you’re thinking about auditioning at The Royal Theatre, and we hope this helps you feel more comfortable!

1st Station – Paperwork

  • Audition Form/Bio and number:
    • The Audition Form is the first page you’ll fill out. Please fill out all of the information. If you’ve been in a show in the past 4 years, you only need to add bio info you want to add or change as we have your past info on file. Resume and headshot is not necessary.
    • Take a number lanyard and put it on. Remember to put your number at the top of your audition form.

2nd Station – Turn in your paperwork to the director at the makeshift table in the auditorium.

3rd Station – Photo We will then take your picture so the director can refer to these when selecting parts.

Sides: If you will be asked to read sides, (short selections from the script that actors perform in an audition) they will be available on the edge of the stage. The director(s) will tell you which part to pick up.  Some directors will have you read for specific characters, some will do a more general reading and cast regardless of the role read for. You may even be asked to read an opposite gender role simply to give everyone more opportunities to read.

What to wear: Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in easily. Please wear close-toes shoes on stage. If you will be auditioning for a dance role, make sure they are shoes you can dance in. No bare feet, flip flops, or loose sandals on stage, please.

Waiting: Please wait quietly in the auditorium until you are called on to read.

Auditions are Held on the Mainstage: As you enter the theatre, you will be asked to go up on stage.

When/How do I find out if I’m in the cast? The director will tell you at the audition when and how you will be notified if you are cast or not.
